Aeroseal Is The Solution to Leaking Ducts

Poorly connected ducts can result in air not flowing properly throughout the building which results in higher utility bills, a sure sign that there are problems with your HVAC duct system. If you have poorly connected leaking ducts in your building, duct sealing is the answer and can improve comfort, cost-efficiency, indoor air quality, and environmental impact. Hasman considers Aeroseal to be the best method of sealing ducts and we’re here to show you why.

How to tell if your building has leaking ducts

In order to know whether your building has leaking ducts and if they need to be sealed, you need to spot the warning signs. Below are the signs you should look out for:

? Rooms in your building have become hotter or cooler than the rest of the building
? You can hear whistling sounds from the ductwork around the building
? Reduced air volumes at air terminals and grilles
? High energy bills
? High fan speeds to achieve air flows

If your duct system is showing any of these signs it is likely that it is experiencing excessive leakage and professional duct sealing is required to fix it.

There isn’t much knowledge of sealing methods for ducts outside manual hand sealing with mastic, so discovering the Aeroseal method is a difficult task for a non expert. The experts at Hasman know Aeroseal to be the most effective method of sealing ducts due to its efficiency, speed and the durability –  with Aeroseal you can seal ducts to 0% leakage!

What is Aeroseal?

Aeroseal is a technology used to fix and stop leaking ducts in an effective and affordable way. It is a more innovative way of tackling duct leaks than traditional, labour intensive methods as the majority of the work is controlled by computer, plus this method can seal the most inaccessible leaks. Aeroseal involves conducting thorough tests to diagnose the duct system at the beginning and at the end of the process to measure the amount of leakage in the ductwork before sealing, and compare it to the end result which can be seen instantly via the computer.

Aeroseal works by sealing the ducts from the inside out. The duct system is leakage tested by positively pressurising the duct, this calculates the total size of the holes in the duct in cm2 and the leakage in l/s.  Sealing of the duct can then begin. A polymer is injected into the ductwork and this then seeks out holes and gaps, the polymers stick to the edges of the gaps one after another until the gap is closed.

The process is carried out until ductwork leakage is at the desired level, it is possible to seal to 0% leakage, but usually sealing is only needed to comply with DW144 classes A, B, C or D.

The Benefits of Aeroseal

  1. Improved comfort

Duct sealing can boost the hvac performance, helping rooms stay at comfortable temperatures without becoming hot and stuffy, or too cold.

  1. Lower energy consumption

Sealed ducts reduces the amount of energy needed to delivery air to your building, improving energy efficiency and reducing impact on the environment.

  1. Reduce energy costs

Sealing the ducts in your HVAC system can reduce energy bills and increase efficiency. The HVAC system does not have to work as hard to force the air through the ductwork as it would with leaking ducts.

  1. Improve indoor air quality

An efficient HVAC system will remove more pollutants and supply more clean air to the indoor environment, delivering a better indoor air quality for improved well being of the inhabitants.
